XX Girls Weekend!

XX_Gorls_Weekend

OBS!

Third time in Sweden coaching for XX Freeride Camp, how does it feel?
I feel like I’m coming HOME ! I ️absolutely love my second family and all my friends over in SWEDEN. I also look so forward to meeting new ones. Excited !!!!!!!!!!! Proud this camp has grown the way it has!

Explain your thoughts about the XX Camp 2016, expectations?
I really want to help the girls progress in their snowmobiling but make sure they are having fun while doing it. I expect to see familiar faces and see how they have grown after I left last season as well as the new girls and this makes me happy !

What sled do you have this season?
2016 Ski-Doo T3 800 163 3 inch.

How do you like it?
I ️absolutely 100% LOVE this sled!

Can you tell us a little bit about your thoughts when it comes to safety and sledding?
Safety is MY number one concern when sledding. You are against so many elements as it is being outside but also YOU. Being ️safe is key whether that’s in avalanche terrain or general trail riding . Being prepared is KEY !

What else are you busy with this season?
So many camps and clinics in Canada and United States! As well as helping design for Divas SnowGear and looking after our Pro Riders and Ambassadors! That’s a full time job in itself haha! Im typing this on a plane heading to Michigan in the US to coach another clinic so it’s been hectic but I am on the snow almost 7 days a week and feeling blessed!

What are you looking forward to teach the girls on XX Freeride Camp 2016?
More technical riding and overall control of their snowmobile. Throttle control is key of course, but also moving them out of their ”comfort zone” is very valuable and something that definitely will be happening.

There are a lot of girl clinics avaliable right now, why, in your opinion, should girls choose XX Freeriders event?
The XX Freeriders Camp is so much more then a camp ! It’s a movement and a lifestyle and a forever kind of event. From the moment you get to the lodge until the moment you leave and even then after you know you took part in something BIG. We all want the ladies to feel comfortable and like they have met new friends who share the same passion.

Last year the snow conditions was bad, but we managed to make it great anyway, what’s your thought about that?
You know, I thought we had a blast year and made due with what we had ! Of course I am hoping for way more snow this season and great conditions there ! I was proud of the girls for pushing through the conditions and still trying their hardest which shows a lot of determination.

What are you looking forward to most during week 7 in Sweden?
I’m looking forward to the people. I have to say the people I meet in SWEDEN are very humble and down to earth. I of course look forward to sledding in some amazing snow and watching the girls have a blast and progress. I love SWEDEN and it feels like I am connected in the heart now.

See yo soon, In my heaven it snows <3

Ready for a new season – With Carro Ohlsson

KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA

Another year has passed and XX Freeriders has continued to brighten my days. I have high expectations for the season and I hope to develop my driving skills, all of what I did wrong last year, I will try to make it right this time.

This will be my third year in the backcountry. All of this started after participating in the Women’s International Freeride Tour 2013. I am fortunate to work with snowmobiles at BRP Sweden, which means that the BRP playground is a natural part of my day-to-day work.

I am riding a Summit T3 163″ 800 E-TEC 2016 and for being such a long sled it is incredibly smooth and easy to handle. It has given me the courage to try new things and drive on slopes, even steep slopes where I previously stood beside and watched while the others were having all the fun. Today, I very rarely stand beside and look, although it is fun to look at, it’s even more fun to drive.

Ski-Doos Revy One-Piece Suit keeps me dry and comfortable, It gives me a feeling of movability and at the same time it keeps me safe from getting snow between jacket and pants. I also like the Mcode Ladies jacket that is a 3-in-1 jacket. I usually wear it as a shell but always keep the insulated linner in my backpack if it gets colder and I often use it on the way home after a long day in the snow. I like to ride in shell so I can easily choose the layers underneath depending on the weather.

KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA

I have three favorite locations in Sweden, Hemavan and Saxnäs where there are wonderful freeriding possibilities and during jan-mars they usually offers a lot of untouched powder areas. At spring time nothing that I have experienced yet beats Riksgränsen, long days where you can go out riding in the evenings, still in bright light, that feeling is magical!

Together with Erika I share a passion to increase the interest for sledding among female riders, something that we can see more and more of. Right now we are planning the XX Freeride Camp 2016 that we are arranging in Saxnäs for the third year this winter. There we will get 4 days on sleds together with 60 other girls, which we are really looking forward too!

1653722_807816829266746_8998210080597582521_n

Freeriding for me is amazing, year after year, day after day it keeps getting better and better. Days when I get to be out riding with friends, having fun in the powder, that is moments that I will cherish forever!  As Erika says ” during winter all the friends out in the snow becomes family” and that is really how I feel, I am lucky to have such a big and wonderful family! =)

Thank you for following us and our updates for XX Freeride Camp!

Hope to see you on the snow this winter! =)

XX Freeride Camp 2015

During the period February 10 to 15, the activity level was high at Saxnäsgården when XX Freeride Camp was arranged  for the second year in a row. A snowmobile event – for girls only. On site there were 60 participants and Stephanie Schwartz from Revelstoke, Canada made a comeback and as last year she spread inspiration and happiness around the girls.

The two X stands for the female chromosomes and is also our, Erika Lindblad and Caroline Ohlsson’s hallmark. The goal for the XX Freeride Camp was,and is, to increase interest in freeriding around women  and the goal is far above reached.  Stephanie agrees.

– I want to get these girls so excited about snowmobiling and progression in the sport. To see the excitement of the girls makes my heart happy. There is such a difference with the girls attending camp, they are so willing to learn and. XX Camp has blown my mind with the interest and excitement, says Stephanie Schwartz about the XX Freeride camp.

Last year’s XX Camp was a story of success, especially since Stephanie visited and was such a great coach. She basically showed the girls how to become a better freerider and impressed us all with her teaching skills. This year was no exception, rather the contrary, the interest in participating at the event increased markedly.  Last year XX Freeride Camp had forty participants and for this year it has grown even more to sixty girls.

XX Freeride Camp 2015 was fully booked within 4 minutes.

– We are overjoyed about the interest in XX Freeride Camp, but also generally in the industry, since we started XX Freeriders last year, several other girl camps has been organized showing that our vision to spread happiness and self-confidence among girls that have a passion for sledding has succeeded, says Caroline Ohlsson.

Like last year, there were two Camps from Tuesday to Sunday. This year’s news was that both occasions were divided into a beginner’s course and a more advanced. Between February 10 and 12 we held the beginner camp.  The camp was directed to the girls who wanted to try freeriding for the first time. At Camp 2, February 12 to 15 it was more focus on technical riding for girls with a bit more experience.

The camp attracted participants from Kiruna in the north to Stockholm in the south, as well as participants from near and far, including Svalbard in Norway and Rovaniemi in Finland. That the reputation of XX Freeride Camp spread throughout Scandinavia and even received great attention in the North America is amazing.

During the days the attendants were divided into small groups and Stephanie rotated between them to be able to coach girls based on their individual level. The girls did a great job since the soft powder was all gone. For example, one exercise in Camp 1 was to pow carve between sticks.  Most beginners are good at pow carving towards one direction, but is more difficult to control the opposite. The same goes for the girls in the advanced group, most of them can sidehill in one direction better than the another, therefore we practiced the ”uncomfortable” way too, explains Stephanie.

We think it’s important to work on improvements but still have fun while out riding. Everyone was excited and helped each other – it was definitely teambuilding.

Teambuilding on high level! – Photo: Joakim kostet

One of the best part’s with the XX Camp is that it is so much more than just sledding – it engages people with the same interest, which later on becomes friends for life. Mingle, dinners, sledquiz, bath, sauna, goodie bags, pool parties and XX missions made the experience epic.

– Everyone was excited when they left. That makes us more than happy and gives a lot of energy to start plan for upcoming events. It is so impressive with all the colorful snowmobiles, matching outfits and the passion that exists for the sport. Girlpower is for sure a good word to describe XX Freeriders, says Erika Lindblad.

But still, besides all the fun things we put safety first. In the introduction to both Camps a brief safety session was held. We showed a movie about avalanche safety and Stephanie went through all the gear in a complete avalanche equipment.

BRP Sweden also offered the girls test drives of 2015’s models of Ski-Doo & Lynx on site.

– It’s always fun to test drive ”for real” and during a whole day, otherwise it is difficult to know which machine that works best for you and your type of riding, says Åsa Eriksson, participants from Umeå that took the change to test drive a 2015

Ski-doo Summit 163″ T3″.

XX Freeride Camp is not totally free of Y-chromosomes. We have the best XX Crew of guys that help us make it possible. The  XX Crew consists of a film crew, a photographer and six guys who support and share their skills on the sleds. We totally agree upon the thought that the best training will always be when you are out driving together with people who inspires your and are able to teach, whether it’s a brother, boyfriend, friend, father or another female freerider.

XX Crew - Photo: Joakim Kostet

– We are surprised about what a huge thing XX Freeriders become since last year. We are also so proud of the events that we organize since the feedback is overwhelmingly positive. When girls leaving with a smile and wishes to sign up for next year’s event already, then we know that we are making it right and that gives us the drive to be ”back in business” season after season, says Erika and Caroline.

Hit the white room in style – Erika’s insights about the season

Hello ladies,

We’re in the middle of the season and the countdown has begun…XX Freeride Camp 2015 is just around the corner and I cannot describe how excited I am.

Thinking about how far we’ve come with boosting female riders both locally and international makes me feel so thrilled. I put a smile on my face every time I see another girl out sledding since it was not that common a couple of years ago. Honestly, when we came up with the idea to kick off XX Freeride Camp I could never imagined how successful it would turn out to be.

DSC_0203

But for sure, it can never go wrong with the most amazing Crew and all the lovely girls attending the XX Camp. I feel so proud of all of you.

That moment you’ll laugh so hard it hurts out in the backcountry…I know sledding is the “it” thing, love it!

Something that I’ve learned and taking with me this season is that it’s about technique more than strength or how much you weigh. How do you improve that? By working on it. It is most definitely a challenge but great achievements comes from practice.

I try to always set a small goal for myself.  For example, I know I doing better sidehilling to my left more than my right, so sometimes I decide to only sidehill to my right during one day. I think it’s important to work on improvements but still have fun while out riding.

DSC_0158

I’m confident my Ski-doo Summit X 154” is going to take me through deep pow and exhilarating mountain places this season. We’re teaming up well.

Besides putting on the most stylish SCS Unlimited custom wrap, I don’t have to do anything to make this sled look great!

The colors fits my style and I really love the overall look of the sled together with my HMK onepiece. Nothing make me more motivated that hit the white room stylish.

IMG_0778

With less than one week to XX Freeride Camp I cannot explain how much I looking forward to seeing all my riding buddies that I haven’t seen since last season – and, meet up with new sled chic’s. So blessed.

The highlights for me this season will be (besides XX Camp) riding, filming and exploring new places in Sweden and spending time with both new and existing sled buddies!

Now – let’s accomplish our aim to arrange Sweden’s coolest girl camp – we want the attendants to leave with a huge smile on their faces, then we have succeeded. See you next week girls!
