XX Freeride Camp 2015 – The movie!

We are stoked to present this smashing edit from the XX Freeride Camp 2015!

Look at the recap of all the fun we was up to – it will get you carried away to the white room. These girls certainly made a name for themselves as they own the backcountry!

Check it out!

XX Freeride Camp 2015

During the period February 10 to 15, the activity level was high at Saxnäsgården when XX Freeride Camp was arranged  for the second year in a row. A snowmobile event – for girls only. On site there were 60 participants and Stephanie Schwartz from Revelstoke, Canada made a comeback and as last year she spread inspiration and happiness around the girls.

The two X stands for the female chromosomes and is also our, Erika Lindblad and Caroline Ohlsson’s hallmark. The goal for the XX Freeride Camp was,and is, to increase interest in freeriding around women  and the goal is far above reached.  Stephanie agrees.

– I want to get these girls so excited about snowmobiling and progression in the sport. To see the excitement of the girls makes my heart happy. There is such a difference with the girls attending camp, they are so willing to learn and. XX Camp has blown my mind with the interest and excitement, says Stephanie Schwartz about the XX Freeride camp.

Last year’s XX Camp was a story of success, especially since Stephanie visited and was such a great coach. She basically showed the girls how to become a better freerider and impressed us all with her teaching skills. This year was no exception, rather the contrary, the interest in participating at the event increased markedly.  Last year XX Freeride Camp had forty participants and for this year it has grown even more to sixty girls.

XX Freeride Camp 2015 was fully booked within 4 minutes.

– We are overjoyed about the interest in XX Freeride Camp, but also generally in the industry, since we started XX Freeriders last year, several other girl camps has been organized showing that our vision to spread happiness and self-confidence among girls that have a passion for sledding has succeeded, says Caroline Ohlsson.

Like last year, there were two Camps from Tuesday to Sunday. This year’s news was that both occasions were divided into a beginner’s course and a more advanced. Between February 10 and 12 we held the beginner camp.  The camp was directed to the girls who wanted to try freeriding for the first time. At Camp 2, February 12 to 15 it was more focus on technical riding for girls with a bit more experience.

The camp attracted participants from Kiruna in the north to Stockholm in the south, as well as participants from near and far, including Svalbard in Norway and Rovaniemi in Finland. That the reputation of XX Freeride Camp spread throughout Scandinavia and even received great attention in the North America is amazing.

During the days the attendants were divided into small groups and Stephanie rotated between them to be able to coach girls based on their individual level. The girls did a great job since the soft powder was all gone. For example, one exercise in Camp 1 was to pow carve between sticks.  Most beginners are good at pow carving towards one direction, but is more difficult to control the opposite. The same goes for the girls in the advanced group, most of them can sidehill in one direction better than the another, therefore we practiced the ”uncomfortable” way too, explains Stephanie.

We think it’s important to work on improvements but still have fun while out riding. Everyone was excited and helped each other – it was definitely teambuilding.

One of the best part’s with the XX Camp is that it is so much more than just sledding – it engages people with the same interest, which later on becomes friends for life. Mingle, dinners, sledquiz, bath, sauna, goodie bags, pool parties and XX missions made the experience epic.

– Everyone was excited when they left. That makes us more than happy and gives a lot of energy to start plan for upcoming events. It is so impressive with all the colorful snowmobiles, matching outfits and the passion that exists for the sport. Girlpower is for sure a good word to describe XX Freeriders, says Erika Lindblad.

But still, besides all the fun things we put safety first. In the introduction to both Camps a brief safety session was held. We showed a movie about avalanche safety and Stephanie went through all the gear in a complete avalanche equipment.

BRP Sweden also offered the girls test drives of 2015’s models of Ski-Doo & Lynx on site.

– It’s always fun to test drive ”for real” and during a whole day, otherwise it is difficult to know which machine that works best for you and your type of riding, says Åsa Eriksson, participants from Umeå that took the change to test drive a 2015

Ski-doo Summit 163″ T3″.

XX Freeride Camp is not totally free of Y-chromosomes. We have the best XX Crew of guys that help us make it possible. The  XX Crew consists of a film crew, a photographer and six guys who support and share their skills on the sleds. We totally agree upon the thought that the best training will always be when you are out driving together with people who inspires your and are able to teach, whether it’s a brother, boyfriend, friend, father or another female freerider.

– We are surprised about what a huge thing XX Freeriders become since last year. We are also so proud of the events that we organize since the feedback is overwhelmingly positive. When girls leaving with a smile and wishes to sign up for next year’s event already, then we know that we are making it right and that gives us the drive to be ”back in business” season after season, says Erika and Caroline.

Hit the white room in style – Erika’s insights about the season

Hello ladies,

We’re in the middle of the season and the countdown has begun…XX Freeride Camp 2015 is just around the corner and I cannot describe how excited I am.

Thinking about how far we’ve come with boosting female riders both locally and international makes me feel so thrilled. I put a smile on my face every time I see another girl out sledding since it was not that common a couple of years ago. Honestly, when we came up with the idea to kick off XX Freeride Camp I could never imagined how successful it would turn out to be.

But for sure, it can never go wrong with the most amazing Crew and all the lovely girls attending the XX Camp. I feel so proud of all of you.

That moment you’ll laugh so hard it hurts out in the backcountry…I know sledding is the “it” thing, love it!

Something that I’ve learned and taking with me this season is that it’s about technique more than strength or how much you weigh. How do you improve that? By working on it. It is most definitely a challenge but great achievements comes from practice.

I try to always set a small goal for myself.  For example, I know I doing better sidehilling to my left more than my right, so sometimes I decide to only sidehill to my right during one day. I think it’s important to work on improvements but still have fun while out riding.

I’m confident my Ski-doo Summit X 154” is going to take me through deep pow and exhilarating mountain places this season. We’re teaming up well.

Besides putting on the most stylish SCS Unlimited custom wrap, I don’t have to do anything to make this sled look great!

The colors fits my style and I really love the overall look of the sled together with my HMK onepiece. Nothing make me more motivated that hit the white room stylish.

With less than one week to XX Freeride Camp I cannot explain how much I looking forward to seeing all my riding buddies that I haven’t seen since last season – and, meet up with new sled chic’s. So blessed.

The highlights for me this season will be (besides XX Camp) riding, filming and exploring new places in Sweden and spending time with both new and existing sled buddies!

Now – let’s accomplish our aim to arrange Sweden’s coolest girl camp – we want the attendants to leave with a huge smile on their faces, then we have succeeded. See you next week girls!

Sending a BIG thank you to our sponsors who help us make this possible:

XX Girls Weekend in Hemavan

This weekend XX Freeriders visited Hemavan for XX Girls Weekend.

10 girls from different places in Sweden went to Hemavan to get the chance to ride together and hang out with other girls with the same interests.

Thanks to our guide, who showed us to his secret spots we found beautiful powder and got some awesome days out on our sleds!

Lots of love to all you girls that participated and to our guide, Jonas  – you all made the trip epic!

Big thanks to BRP and Hemavan Fjällcenter who helped us make this trip possible!

We are already looking forward to the next opportunity to get together!

Going all in this season – Caroline speaks up’

Hi ladies,

A year has passed and XX Freeride Camp has continued to brighten my days. Besides all the wonderful people we got the opportunity to meet I also had the chance for the first time to visit Riksgränsen. Sweden is incredibly, I’m getting more and more impressed every time I take a look at the pictures (thanks for that opportunity Joakim Kostet that repeatedly set up as a photographer). When the grass began to peek out at home, Riksgränsen offered us powder and sun at the same time!

And the days in Saxnäs was even better than we dared to guess, all participants were incredibly talented and helpful and XX Freeride Camp is for sure a memory for life. Without all you girls, it would never have been the same successes. And all of the guides and staff at Marsfjäll Mountain Lodge that constantly was helping us and spreading joy – thanks!

This was planned to be a presentation of news for the season and what my expectation are but I felt it was important to give a big thanks to everyone who made last year to the best so far, but we will try to beat it this year, right!?! =)

I have high expectations for the season, and I hope to develop my driving skills and not be afraid about getting stuck or even crashing, I believe that is the fastest way to learn new things. So I just want to go out there and do my thing and hopefully after this season I will be on a higher level than I am right now! =) I might not be the best in my group of riding buddies (since my friends are pretty awesome) but they have all learned it the same way that I’m now trying. So I will do exactly what I want because I want it myself!

Except training to be a better rider I also hope to meet and get a chance to ride together with all of you girls!

Last year I was driving a Lynx Boondocker 3700 that I liked a lot and we got along very well, as always I will miss it! But I’m always ready to try something new so this year I will be driving a Ski-Doo Summit T3 163″. I will be spending my weekends in Hemavan and Saxnäs and my plan is to get as much time on my sled as possible.

Last year I said that ”I have never been more excited for snow than I am this upcoming season!” but, I guess that was bullshit since this year I am checking the snowmap over Sweden every day and trying to find the place with the most snow right now!

My sled is wrapped and ready to go out riding so If you see me out on the mountain please give me a shootout, I am certainly looking forward to meet you!

Once again thank you for following us and our updates for XX Freeride Camp!

Hope to see you on the snow this winter! =)

Stay tuned!

I would also like to give a big thanks to our amazing sponsors who help us make this possible:

”Snow-ready” – Steph about the upcoming season

Sled wrapping, getting winter essentials to nail the right outfit, make sure everything’s set for the first ride – we’re all snow-ready. But first – Christmas holiday – and therefore we want to send an extra thought across the sea to our lovely friend and the greatest XX-coach Stephanie Schwartz.

We got a quick chat with her, read below about her plans and ambitions for season 2015;

Welcome to Sweden again this year on the XX Freeride Camp! How does it feel?
I am SO excited to come back to Sweden and see girls from last year and meet the new ones. The XX Freeride Camp is my highlight of my season, not because it’s a trip to Sweden to snowmobile but because i absolutely love the people I have met and the new ones I will meet. It’s like going ”home” and seeing family. I miss Sweden terribly when I leave. I seem to never have enough time there.

What was the best thing about the Camp last year?
The people and how everyone made me feel so welcome. The level of riding the girls were at in Sweden was amazing. Such advanced riders and such HEART.

Explain your thoughts about the XX Camp 2015, expectations?
I want to get these girls so excited about snowmobiling and progression in the sport. To see the excitement of the girls makes my heart happy. There is such a difference with the girls attending camp, so willing to learn and excel. XX Camp is second to none and has blown my mind with the interest and excitement.

What sled do you have this season?
I have a 2015 Ski-Doo  Summit 800 T3 163

How do you like it?
I absolutely love love love this sled. Its almost like cheating to ride it. Makes my days on the snowmobile so much more fun.

What else is coming up during this season?
I have several clinic/camps in Canada and USA this season as well as attending Dealer Rides  in which I travel to locations asked of me to ride with customers and guide them as well. Very busy season this year for me.

Are you going to coach other Camps as well?
Yes I am coaching at a lot of clinics this season. I have new ones in the USA and some in Canada as well as a lot of private clinics (one on one teaching) I could be busy every day during the season coaching if I chose.

Girls clinics have become a huge thing the latest years, could you give us a reason why?
I think Girl’s clinic/camps have become so popular because of the amount of girls either starting to ride or advancing from trail riding to more technical riding. Girls have need for knowledge and want to learn so they seek out these clinics or camps to help in the process.

What are you looking forward to teach the girls on XX Freeride Camp 2015?
I am really looking forward to helping the girls gain confidence in their riding skills to excel themselves into another level of riding. I want them to have fun and laugh and learn. Confidence is the biggest benefit of these camps that I could possibly give these ladies. If I can instill this and have these girls be excited to go out and ride and practice then I have done my ”job” and that is what matters the most to me.

You know that there will be 30 participants in each Camp, is that possible to handle?
I am excited for this. Yes its a challenge to make sure all girls get enough one on one time with me but I always make it work. I wish we at XX Freeride Camp could have MORE girls at camp but we have to have a smaller number to ensure proper coach to rider time.

What’s the best thing about sledding, do you think?
The freedom, the fresh air, the challenge and FUN that sledding gives me is why I do it and intend to for a very long time. Nothing frees my soul more then being on my sled with amazing friends having a great day!

Something else you want to tell the girls before the camp?
Relax girls and DO NOT worry about the language difference. Take a deep breath and be ready to have an awesome time on and off snow. Sledding is fun and you have to have time on your sled. The more time and practice the better one becomes. I want all the girls attending to leave Camp with new skills and memories as well as a thirst for this sport. And of course I want lots and lots of laughs and smiles.

Hugs Steph,
In my heaven it snows! <3
